The Strattons have now been farming at Codford for 100 years. Josh Stratton is the third generation to take the reins, and the farm and business continues to grow.
20 years ago the business was almost exclusively agricultural. Since then, though farming is still our core business, we have developed a considerable amount of commercial property, we now let out the majority of our residential property, and we have invested in a wide range of renewable energy projects.
We now farm nearly 2,200 hectares (5,500 acres), with 1,500 hectares (3,700 acres) of arable crops, a 400 cow dairy and 200 dairy followers. We have 55,000 sqft of let commercial property and 40 cottages and houses. There is a food waste anaerobic digester, 45 acres of field scale solar PV, three roof mounted solar PV arrays, and a 100kw woodchip biomass local heating system.
